CoolStart: Hot water flows only when it’s needed
With hansgrohe CoolStart faucets, only cold water flows when the handle is in the central position. Hot water is activated only when the handle is deliberately moved towards the hot-water side. This means that no hot water is drawn when the faucet is used in the central position. As a result, the energy required for water heating can be reduced. In hotels, frequent use may increase the overall potential for energy savings.
With CoolStart faucets, warm or hot water only flows when you really need it. Users only use energy to heat the water when they actively move the faucet lever to the left.
A smart twist for reduced energy use
With conventional faucets without CoolStart, the lever's basic position may request mixed or warm water, depending on the faucet setting and installation. With CoolStart, only cold water flows in the basic position.
But you don’t always need hot water. Cold water is often sufficient for getting a drink, washing hands, brushing teeth, watering flowers, or cleaning.
With CoolStart, warm water is only requested when users actively move the lever to the left.
Users decide how high the temperature should be – however many times a day. Typical hansgrohe: with CoolStart faucets, you can enjoy full convenience and modern design. The CoolStart range is aimed at a wide target group and offers professionals attractive sales opportunities.
If you start cool, you may save energy
The following example calculation shows how much energy can potentially be saved: If a four-person household uses a hansgrohe CoolStart faucet for a total of 20 minutes per day over the course of one year, the calculated energy required for hot water preparation can theoretically be up to 508 kWh lower than with a comparable hansgrohe faucet without CoolStart.
The calculation is based, among other factors, on an assumed flow rate of 5 l/min at 3 bar and on heating the water from 10°C to 35°C. Actual savings depend on individual usage habits, the installation and the type of hot water system. The full basis of calculation can be found at the bottom of this page.*

* The values shown are calculation examples and do not represent guaranteed savings. The comparison is based on a hansgrohe CoolStart basin faucet and a technically comparable hansgrohe basin faucet without CoolStart.
The calculation is based on a total daily usage time of 20 minutes in a four-person household, an assumed flow rate of 5 l/min at 3 bar, and heating the water from 10°C to 35°C. An energy demand of 0.029 kWh is assumed for heating one litre of water by 25°C.
The energy savings shown depend in particular on how often hot water would be unintentionally requested in the handle center position when using a faucet without CoolStart. Actual results may vary depending on individual usage behaviour, the installation, the heating system, the energy source and energy prices.
